The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines assistive technology as both a device and a service, as follows:

Assistive Technology Device
Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability.
Assistive Technology Service
Any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device.

Bookshare is an accessible online library for people with print disabilities. Qualifying students can access this comprehensive and growing library of fiction and nonfiction titles, textbooks, national and regional newspapers, and magazines.
